About Us
Stu and I live on a 14 acre property high up under picturesque Mount Egmont, in Taranaki. The house was built in 1910 as a simple farmhouse then was extensively refurbished in the early 90's. We have a river boundary which the dogs love to swim and paddle in, and run a small herd each of hereford cattle and Welsh Cobs. I bought my first Bernese in 1993 when I was 19. CH Amblnon Cotillion, "Otis" was the catalyst for my ongoing passion for this incredible breed! We had grown up with Rough Collies, Spaniels, a comical Basset Hound and my sister's Saint Bernards but I saw a Bernese Mountain Dog in a Dog Breed's Encyclopedia when I was 8 and remember thinking what a pretty dog! It wasn't until I was in a position to have my own dog that Mum & I went on the hunt for a Bernese! Our research turned up a few breeders, and within 6 or so months Mum & I were the very proud owners of a Berner pup each, littermates Otis and Bella. Bella was Mum's very constant companion and went everywhere with her until she died at 10 1/2 years old. Since then I have bred 9 litters and imported 9 berner boys and girls in an effort to increase the gene pool that I work with. In addition I have imported frozen semen from 2 males that I hope will add to the diversity of my breeding programme in time to come. New Zealand is isolated from the rest of the Berner world so we rely heavily on the support & friendship of breeders overseas to help us increase our gene pool! This breed deserves our utmost dedication if we are to see it continue to improve. My main priority is that the pups I breed have sound and stable, happy temperaments, that their families are proud to take anywhere! I breed 1 or 2 litters in a year if the girls oblige! I do not believe that every sound Bernese should be bred from and to that end all the pups I place as family companions carry a non-breeding endorsement on their NZKC registration. It takes more than good scores to make a good Bernese. My pups are raised on a raw diet of K9 Natural, and all my adults thrive on it also. Only one, Hudson has an issue with the ground bone content so he eats 'Orijen' which, like K9 Natural is entirely grain free, which I think is very important. My precious pups leave home at 8 weeks -vaccinated, microchipped, wormed, flea free, with a very substantial guide to nutrition, raising and care, a full pictorial pedigree history and their new families are given a year's free membership to our national BMD Club. I offer support, advice and guidance throughout the life of all pups and beyond - many of my buyers have gone on to become wonderful, close friends! I am responsible for every pup I breed and will always take one back should the need ever arise. This website is still a work in progress but I hope you enjoy what is here already, and share my passion for this wonderful breed!
Home sweet home!
